Here are some tips to help you to start playing Drakan Multiplayer
|
If you have a CD with english version of Drakan, install the game using it and then download and install the 445 patch.
If your version is not english, then get yourself the english one (download links are below), because you'll be able to play on public servers ONLY with the english version, because the servers have the english one and the versions of your game and the one on the server have to correspond to each other. (If you want the game to be in your language not in english, there is a workaround. First you need to patch the game with your version of 445 patch (unfortunately I don't know were you can get these patches :( ) and then replace the WHOLE Multiplayer folder with the english version folder. So you'll need to download the english one anyway. You may need to replace some other folders from Drakan root with their english versions, such as the "Drakan/Mountain World/Ruined Village" folder.)
If you haven't got the CD download the Drakan Gold Pack from Axe's site (find the link(s) in the Downloads section): the game + all Player Created Levels (PCLs) + Level Editor + editor tutorials + some fun fiction and many other things.
Or you can dowload the game without PCLs from Drakon Rider's FTP.
|
|
If you downloaded the Drakan Gold Pack, you can skip this step, cuz the Pack already includes all of them.
You can download and install (that is unpack to the right place) the PCLs you need one by one from Drakon Rider's FTP: MultiPlayer PCLs, Single Player PCLs.
Or, if downloading and installing one by one is annoying, you can get the Multiplayer Pack with all the MP PCLs already installed from Axe's site - the link is in the Downloads section.
|
|
If you've got the Gold Pack, then skip this step, cuz the config is already fixed there.
Change the corresponding lines from your Drakan.cfg file on the following ones (Drakan.cfg is found in the Drakan root folder - the folder where you installed your game):
set MasterServerList "master.gamespy.com:27900"
set ServerQueryPort "27046"
set ServerGamePort "27045"
set Client_GamePort "27910"
set Client_QueryPort "0"
You can still play without changing this, but they say if you don't fix this you may have frequent disconnects and may have trouble with hosting.
If you have Vista or Win7, Drakan.cfg may be placed in a folder different from your Drakan root. Check TDL's first post in a thread at Arokh's Lair.

There are 2 active 24/7 public servers currently. To play on them you just need to add their IPs into your servers list from inside the game: Multiplayer -> Join Game -> Add Server (Query Port is always 27046). The IPs are:
Ati's serv (Netherlands): 80.60.95.117
Drakon Rider's server S-Pb2 (Russia): 93.100.65.71
Currently SPb is down, but hopefully it'll be back in nearest couple of weaks.
To play on SPb you need the unofficial 445SP1 patch - a patch solving some bugs in Multiplayer. Note, though, that with the 445SP1 installed you will not be able to play on Ati's anymore, because the patch changes your Dragon.rfl file, and this file has to be exactly the same on your comp and on the comp of the server. This is why, after playing on SPb and before playing on Ati's restore your Dragon.rfl with the corresponding button in the 445SP1 patch program.
Ati's and SPb are the servers on which we usually play. However, there are some servers that appear and disappear with time. For example, Peter usually hosts on weakend evenings and each time the IP's different. And when we see a new server we prefer to play on it, cuz it will usually have interesting different from usual maps. Also the IP of a popular public server might change, so you might need to find its new IP somewhere. We'll try to keep the IPs in this section updated, but actually we would recommend you to use GameSpy for such purposes. To find Drakan MP servers (their IPs) you can use either GameSpy 3d (download from this site or from the official GameSpy website) or GameSpy Arcade (get from the official site). This programs are shareware (that is you don't need to pay to use them). I personally prefer Gamespy 3d, because it's got very easy-to-use interface and usually shows more servers than the Arcade version, though Arcade has a chat.

Usually we play on Saturday evenings GMT (from about 6pm gmt till midnight more or less). So you can easily find us at that time on public servers or in hamachi.
You can also find ppl right here, check through the members list and leave messages in the profile shoutboxes. Usually the ppl who logged in most recently are the most active players.
We use Instant Messengers such as ICQ, AIM, MSN, Stype, Gtalk for gathering people for the multiplayer game, so if you have one you're most welcome to add us or leave your contact here in the shoutbox below and we'll add you. If you don't have any, then get yourself one, icq would be the best, cuz we mostly use that one and you'll get more chances to find someone who would join you in the game when you want to play with it.

If you're playing from behind a router (that is you've got many computers connected to the internet at home) then your router's firewall might not let you play and you'll be disconnected in about 30 secs after joining a server. You can find more info on Arokh's Lair or in the Connecting section of Axe's site.
As a last resort you can use hamachi. Though note, that we play through hamachi only like in 20% of cases, so better fix the firewall anyway. Some ppl detach their routers and connect in a direct way while playing. So, if the ppl at your home will not complain of you cutting their inet, you can also do like that.

Hamachi is a VPN application. In other words, when you connect to other ppl on the Internet through Hamachi, it looks as if you're connected to them through LAN. Hamachi helps you to bypass your router firewall, that is if you have the 30 secs disco cause of your router, with Hamachi that won't be the case. Also if you're behind NAT and the server that you host can't be seen to others on the Internet, with Hamachi it will be seen to others, of course only those who're connected to you through Hamachi.
Download Hamachi v.2 from this site or from the official site.
After you install the program, in the main menu there is Network -> Join an existing network. The newest not full network that you can join is DrakanBonded2 (pass: drakan). Be careful to input the network names correctly with uppercases. Besides this one there are other 2 main Hamachi networks that we use: DrakanBonded (pass: drakan) and DrakanMulti (pass: 123). But unfortunately they are all full and the admin lost his old account so it's impossible to clean them up now. There are also others for playing Drakan, namely drakan, drakan2, DrakanTourney etc, but they are also all full and kind of abandoned. If you would like to create your own network for Drakan and would like us to join it, feel free to make a post in the shoutbox below.
After you've joined a network and are connected to others in your network, you can use the IP addresses from hamachi (5.smt.smt.smt) like usual Internet IPs. So, if someone from your Hamachi network is hosting a game, you'll just need to add his hamachi IP in your servers list inside the game to play on that server.

| Teamspeak is a program for voice communication between team members. We use it in team play events. You can download the program here. After you install it and get through the Setup Wizard, you need to establish a connection with our server: Connections -> Connect. Server IP, port and the pass you will get personally from inside the game, so the server does not become too crowdy.

There are some PCLs where the ground might seem fluid/moving/blinking, especially in the Sky Island map. To fix this you'll need to disable the Bump Mapping option in your engine properties (hold Shift while starting Drakan program to open the Riot Engine options window). Bump Mapping was initially supposed to be improving the game graphics (not sure if it makes any considerable difference), so if you want your game to have the best possible graphics you may want to leave the Bump Mapping enabled, but... well...
